About all these users asking when they'd get married, can astrology even do that?
My filter’s set to all English questions, and I’ve noticed some cultures seem convinced that astrology can tell when they’d get married. The answerers seem certain, too, like, "Oh, since your X is in Y, you won’t get married until late 2012."
I don’t mean to attack anyone, but I’ve never read this in the usual astro sites that I visit. Is this like a Vedic astrology thing? If it is, what exactly is being looked at? Or are the assumptions baseless?
Thanks everyone! ![]()

Hey. No one’s answering you, so I guess I’ll do it.
I think it’s mostly vedic astrologers and chinese astrologers who can answer that question. I study western astrology, but I’ve also had the chance to take a peek at vedic astrology (via some classes and people). I have no idea how chinese astrologers do it, other than something about "pillar" calculations. I’ll tell you what vedic astrologers might do, but it’s fuzzy for me since it’s been a while.
In vedic, the astrologer will look at the preliminary analyses, of how strong and weak each planet is, and what kind of fortifications(configurations?) they have with each other, called yogas. All the different combinations are looked at and weighed to get a sense of the overall balance/story/whatever. The timing/predictive system in vedic is (maybe among other systems) called dasa/bhukti system. It’s very mathematical, but not like rocket science math. Dasa are main periods, and bhukti are sub-periods. I’m _guessing_ they find the planet(s) and yogas involved with love and marriage, and look at the dasa/bhukti periods where the aforementioned are active. The confident will say for sure when who will get married, blah blah, but the less experienced will say the so-and-so time period is when the client will most likely get married. I have no experience giving or receiving such a consultation. I have only read/learned a little about it, so I cannot say whether it’s true or fake or whatever.
In my opinion, western astrology is more like a microscope than a scale that spits out specific numbers. There are predictive methods there too, but probably not as fine-tuned and detailed as vedic ones. Methods used in western include transits, secondary progressions, solar arcs, and some others. I do have to say both have their pros and cons. (Free-will versus accuracy)
I look at this stuff for fun, because I love numbers.
